چکیده

Certain weaknesses of Expert System technology became apparent in the early 80's. Among them were the `knowledge acquisition bottleneck' and problems of robustness. Among the proposals in the 1980s to resolve these problems are Case Based Reasoning (CBR) and Task Speci c Architectures (TSA). Case Based Reasoning resolves these problems by representing knowledge in cases cases are generalized when a new problem is seen, and the speci c requirements of the case are known. Task Speci c Architectures take advantage of commonalities among several expert system applications, to project these into the engineering of future systems. Case-based Reasoning recognizes the power of individual solutions, while task-speci c architectures take advantage of commonalities among solutions. Although these two approaches exploit di erent aspects of knowledge-based systems, integrating them into one system is not obvious. Case-based reasoning insists that knowledge be represented in cases, while TSAs represent knowledge in task structures. This paper presents two di erent ways to gain the advantages of both.

Plug-and-Play: Construction of Task-Speci c Expert-System Shells Using Sharable Context Ontologies

Previous approaches to the reuse of problem-solving methods have relied on the existence of a global data model to serve as the mediator among the individual methods. This hard-coded approach limits the reusability of methods and introduces implicit assumptions into the system architecture that make it di cult to combine reasoning methods in new ways. To overcome these limitations, the prot eg ...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Different Task Complexity Factors and Cognitive Individual ‎Differences: The Effects on EFL Writers’ Performance

This study aimed at examining the main and interaction effects of increased intentional reasoning demands, planning time, and also language learning aptitude on syntactic complexity, accuracy, lexical complexity, and fluency (CALF) of 226 EFL learners’ performance on letter writing tasks. The participants were first randomly assigned to three experimental groups to be given a task with differin...

Learning to Improve Case Adaption by Introspective Reasoning and CBR

In current CBR systems, case adaptation is usually performed by rule-based methods that use task-speci c rules hand-coded by the system developer. The ability to de ne those rules depends on knowledge of the task and domain that may not be available a priori, presenting a serious impediment to endowing CBR systems with the needed adaptation knowledge. This paper describes ongoing research on a ...

Improving Accuracy by Combining Rule-based and Case-based Reasoning Improving Accuracy by Combining Rule-based and Case-based Reasoning

An architecture is presented for combining rule-based and case-based reasoning. The architecture is intended for domains that are understood reasonably well, but still imperfectly. It uses a set of rules, which are taken to be only approximately correct, to obtain a preliminary answer for a given problem; it then draws analogies from cases to handle exceptions to the rules. Having rules togethe...
